Dissident journalist Taoufik Ben Brik was released from prison on April 27 after serving a six-month prison term for attacking a female driver after a Tunis road accident. Tunisian human rights advocacy groups, international press freedom organisations and Amnesty International had condemned his sentence, alleging the case was politically motivated and legally flawed. The news comes on the back of a report release by Amnesty that calls on authorities to end to what it says is a systematic harassment of political prisoners.
