The quality of Mozambique's democratic process has continued to come under scrutiny as Frelimo secured a resounding, but slightly controversial victory in the presidential elections in 2009. The lack of meaningful opposition has brought the strength of the democratic processes in the country into question, a theme echoed by donor governments.
