Although Mozambique has come a long way in terms of democratisation ever since the end of the civil war and the introduction of multi-party democracy in 1992, it remains a weak democracy. Ruling party Frente de Libertação de Moçambique (Frelimo) faces little opposition and this has concerned international observers. Indeed, Frelimo's strong grip has raised concerns over increased levels of corruption and political exclusion from Frelimo opponents.
