The pesident of the Assembly of State Parties to the International Criminal Court (ICC), Christian Wenaweser, has urged Uganda to arrest Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir if he visits the country during the African Union summit scheduled to be held in the capital city of Kampala in July. Wenaweser said that Uganda would be obliged to carry out the arrest under the terms of the Rome Statute. He added that Uganda should issue a statement confirming its willingness to fulfill the mandate. Although Uganda's state house initially said that al-Bashir would not be attending the summit, these comments were retracted after public outcry in Khartoum.
