Banking Sector - Stable But Uncompetitive

The sector's aggregated balance sheet shows all the signs of a healthy, evenly diversified system, while its capital ratios have remained strong throughout the downturn. The main count against it is the lack of competition: high lending rates will discourage loan growth, arguably to the detriment of overall economic growth.
