Banking Sector - Stable But Uncompetitive

The Namibian banking sector will continue to stand out as one of the most stable in Sub Saharan Africa. The sector's aggregated balance sheet shows all the signs of a healthy, evenly diversified system, while its capital ratios have remained strong throughout the downturn. The main count against it is the lack of competition: high lending rates will discourage loan growth, arguably to the detriment of overall economic growth.
