POLITICAL RISK- Army Clashes With Ugandan Rebels
July 2010 | Ratings UpdateTroops from the Democratic Republic of Congo have been fighting Ugandan rebels in the eastern part of the country, causing around 25 deaths and the flight of thousands of civilians, possibly as many as 40,000. The Ugandan operatives are fighting under the banner of the Democratic Forces-National Army for the Liberation of Uganda (DF-NALU), which is a hardline Islamist group trying to set up a state in Uganda. The most recent clashes underscore the wider problem of lawlessness in North Kivu province, where instability and violence have been the norm for the past several years or more.
