The June 1 rise in water and electricity tariffs is proving unpopular. Ghana's Trades Union Congress (TUC) has objected to the 42% rise in electricity tariffs, and 21-135% increase in water tariffs, calling for a return to the status quo. Addressing a press conference in Accra, the TUC commented that any delay in reversing the tariff increase would impose unbearable hardships on works and households. The authorities, for their part, urged the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission to meet organised labour and other stakeholders to discuss concerns raised over the tariff hikes.
