AMCON: An Essential Step, But Not A Cure-all

The long awaited launch of the Asset Management Company of Nigeria is a positive development, but will not be sufficient in and of itself to solve the problems plaguing the banking sector. The real question is whether it will help restore lending. While we are cautiously optimistic, we do not expect any concrete results until the second half of 2011.
