Thousands of protestors in Iraq, inspired by the public unrest that has spread across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, took part in a 'day of rage' on February 25. Although demonstrations had occurred sporadically in the past few weeks, the day of rage was the first time that protestors across the country were united in their message to the government. Public demands centre around government corruption, shortages of jobs, and inadequate provision of food, power, and water. In a few cities, violent clashes were reported between protestors and the police.
