In early January, Egyptian authorities prevented the son of Libyan leader Muammar Qadhafi, Seif al-Islam Qadhafi, from landing at el-Arish airport to access Gaza through the Rafah crossing. Qadhafi said that he wanted to visit the Gaza Strip to express his solidarity with the Palestinian people in their conflict with Israel. However, Gaza's borders remain closed to almost all international bodies, with Egypt only allowing wounded civilians to cross the border from the Gazan side. Several Libyan medical personnel are working on the Egyptian side to treat wounded Palestinians.
