Renewed high-level talks between the Israeli and Palestinian premiers are boosting hopes for a ceasefire. Optimism about the prospects for peace now appears to be higher than at any time during the past four years of Palestinian intifada. While the repeated failures of negotiations in the past mean many on both sides remain sceptical, Israel's decision to reduce its use of force in the Palestinian territories represents a tangible change on the ground that should strengthen the credibility of talks.
