Prompted by opposition allegations of irregularities, a recount of the votes cast in the November parliamentary has left the initial outcome unchanged. The incumbent SWAPO party has 55 of the 72 seats in parliament, giving it an unassailable majority. The presidential election was not affected, and Hifikepunye Pohamba has now taken over from the venerable Sam Nujoma. However, the latter remains head of SWAPO and will remain a central figure on the political
