Economic performance in 2005 was characterised by high oil prices and a poor harvest that also drove up food prices and imports. Although the food supply situation is forecast to ease in 2006 and 2007, high oil prices look set to maintain some uplift on inflation, which reached 5.0% in 2005, compared with deflation of 3.1% in 2004.
