The incumbent Amadou Toumani Touré remains likely to win the presidential election in April 2007, especially as one of the two main opposition parties, Alliance pour la Démocratie au Mali (Adema), has yet to select its candidate for the contest. The legislative elections three months later could be more complex, however, as constituent parties of the broad ruling coalition begin to drift apart ahead of the polls. One former Touré ally, the Rassemblement Pour le Mali (RPM), is now in formal opposition.
