The ceasefire agreed on August 11 has held remarkably well, and neither side has shown any particular appetite for a renewed bout of fighting, with Hizbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah having hinted at regret with his statement that he would not have ordered the original kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers if he had known what Israel's reaction would be. However, as we stated immediately after the agreement, the success of the ceasefire will depend on the speed of the Israeli withdrawal and, at the time of writing, Israel had decided to halt its pullout on the grounds that 'rules of engagement
