BMI View: Recent clashes between government and rebel forces in eastern Chad underscore the pent up tensions, which are intricately linked to the conflicts in neighbouring Sudan and the Central African Republic. The risks of further fighting are veritable and this poses a real threat to the large masses of refugees and internally displaced Chadians camped in the east of the country. The interconnectedness of the regional turmoil necessitates a broader regional solution, the likelihood of which appears worryingly dim.
