On January 16 Freedom House released its 2008 report on global freedom. The DRC's ratings were unchanged from 2007, scoring a 6 out of 7 for civil liberties and a 5 out of 7 for political rights (7 being the worst), and once again falling into the lowest, 'not free', category. The low scores reflect our own political risk ratings for the DRC, as the country has the lowest long-term political risk rating in the world and the second lowest short-term risk rating - just ahead of Iraq.
