Fierce fighting has taken place in the east of the country between Congolese army units and rebels belonging to the Forces for the Democratic Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) over the last month. While this has resulted in the displacement of tens of thousands of people, tackling the threat posed by the FDLR is a key pre-requisite for regional stability.
