We see little political risk in Tanzania over the short-term, and the country enjoys one of the highest ratings in sub-Saharan Africa. Relations with the semi-autonomous Zanzibar off the coast have improved greatly of late, while the mainland suffers from little in the way of sectarian tension. The major flaw in the country's longer-term rating is the polity's lack of multi-party democracy. While the government's popularity with the population ensures stability over the short-term, the lack of any significant political opposition, at least on the mainland, could be a source of turbulence over the longer haul.
