The DRC and Ugandan governments may have largely patched up their differences for the time being, but significant pressure points continue to exist inside the DRC's own borders, which have the potential to upset relations with neighbouring countries. Late in August, men under the command of General Laurent Nkunda reportedly ambushed and killed four Congolese army soldiers in North Kivu province. Nkunda, who retains close links with the Rwandan government, was integrated into the DRC army earlier this year, but has since flouted his position within the army hierarchy to conduct operations which have displaced 640,000 people.
