A landmark payment and settlement system known as the 'National Switch and Smartcard Payments System' or 'E-Zwich' was launched in April by Ghana's President John Kufour. The system provides a common platform to link payments between all financial and non-financial banking institutions, and alleviates the need to use cash for business transactions.
