Peace remains elusive in the eastern parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), despite the signing of a comprehensive peace agreement between the government and several rebel groups of the Kivu province on January 23 2008. The peace progress has recently been further undermined by renewed allegations that UN peacekeepers were repeatedly involved in arms trading with Congolese rebel groups over the past few years, putting a huge question mark over the UN's capacity to contain violence in the region.
