On the back of the recent outbreak of violence against foreigners, rising instability in Zimbabwe, and further political divisions within the African National Congress (ANC), South Africa's political risk profile deteriorated significantly in Q208, and we believe that the threats to political stability and policy continuity will remain considerable over the coming years. We have decreased South Africa's short-term political risk rating score to 62.5 from 72.1 at the end of Q108.
