According to a recent survey by the Emirates National Development Programme (ENDP), more than half of UAE nationals that leave their jobs in the private sector do so because of a lack of career progression and an insensitivity to religious customs and dress codes by senior management. However, a representative from the government-sponsored ENDP also said that a reluctance to work long hours and unrealistic promotion expectations also played a role. The survey helps explain the preference by UAE nationals for jobs in the public sector. We believe that the current recession will further reinforce this trend, as those laid
